ACTIVE MOVEMENT

ACTIVE MOVEMENT is a nationwide initiative that encourages quality movement experiences for children under five.  It builds the foundations for learning, moving and communicating.  Active Movement also encourages the child to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually as well as physically.

Active movement is important for the healthy development of a child's brain - young children learn from movement and being physically active. You can learn why movement is vital to healthy development, and get lots of ideas and resources for getting your under-five year old moving through Active Movement.

There are Active Movement Resources developed by SPARC which assist in providing activity areas which cover a range of skills aimed at various developmental areas. These are a pack of 14 printed booklets identifying the different areas as well a series of DVD's. The printed resources are available in English, Te Reo, Chinese, Tongan and Samoan.
